What is LIHEAP? 

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)is designed to aid qualifying low-income Iowa households (homeowners and renters) in the payment of a portion of their residential heating costs for the winter heating season, to encourage regular utility payments, to promote energy awareness, and to encourage reduction of energy usage through energy efficiency and client education.

The LIHEAP program is offered at many of the outreach offices.

LIHWAP IS HERE!

The Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) will provide payments directly to water vendors. Households can receive payment assistance for past-due charges, fees, and taxes for drinking and wastewater services. Individuals must be LIHEAP eligible to receive LIHWAP assistance

Applying for Utility Assistance

Households must apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), meaning they must qualify for federal LIHEAP benefits. Outreach Office staff are here to assist you with steps taken after the LIHEAP application. Households must apply for LIHEAP, LIHWAP, and Energy Crisis Intervention Program at their local outreach office.
