The Shelby County Outreach Center provides client intake, client assessment, client referrals, and coordinates with other community resources. The outreach center has a certified Family Development Specialist who is assisted by senior aides and occasionally community volunteers. Staff work closely with local organizations to insure non-duplication of services and ot maximize resources for resolving local poverty issues.
The goal is to strive to assist low income families of Shelby County in becoming self-sufficient. This is accomplished through offering a wide variety of programs and services.
Programs offered through the Shelby County Outreach Center are: emergency food assistance, clothing room, LIHEAP, Weatherization, and assistance with rent and utility payments. Clients may receive emergency food assistance up to four times a year and may have access to the clothing room once a week. Staff also provide many referrals to other services within the community.
Special projects include a Christmas Adoption program for low-income families and children during the month of December.
